Paying Marketing Firms' Monthly Fees for Google Places is a Rip-off!

Businesses with a local clientele will receive significant Website traffic by properly submitting their business to Google Places with an optimized listing. A proper listing will gain top Google search visibility for relevant local searches. Businesses should also submit their listing to Yahoo Local and Bing Maps to gain top search visibility on those search engines. A number of "local search marketing" businesses have sprung up offering to take care of these listings. Many provide these services for a monthly fee up to $200 and even more. Those marketing firms that offer Google Places management services for a monthly fee are a rip-off that local businesses owners should avoid.

Why is paying monthly fees for Google Places a rip-off? Because Google Places does not require monthly support. As a matter of fact, unless a company updates its services or products, the business moves or changes its phone number, there is no need to do anything. Consequently these "local search marketing" services are charging lucrative fees for doing nothing.

There is one exception. You can add status updates. The proposals I have seen from two "local search marketing" services do not include adding status updates.

Paying for optimized content and proper placement on Google Places, Yahoo Local and Bing Maps with a one-time fee is a wise business investment. The payoff should be excellent. The submission process is unique and should be done properly. The listing should include correct details, relevant keywords and links. Verifying the listing can be problematic. Working with a local search marketing agency that is experienced in the process is worth its weight in gold, literally. If the listing is not properly created, submitted and verified, local businesses will not receive the payback they could enjoy.
