Twitter recently announced that they will be releasing new brand pages, with features that will make their branded accounts more similar to Facebook’s brand pages. 19 major companies including names like Subway, Dell, Pepsi, Coca-Cola, Verizon Wireless and Paramount Pictures get to enjoy upgraded Twitter pages just in time for the Holidays.
The new Twitter brand pages include:
Customized Headers: Brand pages will be able to customize their headers to make their logo and tagline stand out more with a banner at the top of their page. This allows for increased branding, versus the limitations of a small thumbnail photo. This will also set official brand pages apart from personal Twitter users and unofficial, unauthorized Twitter accounts pretending to be from the companies themselves.
New Tabs: Twitter will introduce new tabs at the upper left of the page, which a Mashable study has proven to be the web reader’s sweet spot. These new tabs will let users more easily access their Home Page, connect with others, and discover new content.
Within the new “Discover” tab, Twitter generates content it thinks you may be interested in based on your interests, friends, connections and location. In addition, the tab tells you what your connections are retweeting, following and favoriting.
The new “Connect” tab will put more emphasis on your conversations with people, as well as how many people are retweeting, favoriting and replying to what you post.
Pick a Tweet: With the launch of these new pages, brands will be able to choose a Tweet that will stay at the top of their page, so if they have something important they want visitors to know about, it won’t disappear when they post another Tweet. A photo or a video can be included in this selected Tweet as well, and will automatically expand to make the space. This is a great way for brands to highlight contests, sales or other promotions they are running, without having to bombard followers with the same Tweet over and over.
In addition to all of these new features, Twitter’s new timeline feature is said to be 500% faster than a few months ago. These new brand pages are Twitter’s efforts to enhance their services for brands, as well as to make the site more attractive to advertisers.
