Instagram is a free image sharing app that allows users to snap photos, style them with color filters and share it with fellow Instagramers as well as friends and followers on other social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, foursquare, Tumblr and Flickr. Instagram was founded in October 2010 by two former Stanford University graduates. On April 12, 2012 it was acquired by Facebook for $300 million in cash and 23 million shares of stock. After the acquisition, the U.S. iTunes App Store saw more than 100,000 Instagram downloads per day.
