E-Power Marketing has received several calls from website owners who saw sharp drops in their Google search visibility. I previously noted some of the issues associated with the sudden loss of visibility in the Blog post: DIY SEO Can Mean Trouble as Google Updates Algorithms.

Other website owners hired SEO experts who engaged in questionable link building. As one website owner commented about his SEO guy's link building, "I did not know there were that many Russian dating sites."

The thing is – this questionable link building worked. He had first page Google search positions for desirable, economically valuable phrases within 90 days. Then Google neutralized the link networks used by this SEO expert, and search positions tumbled.

Grab the Cash or Build Long-Term Success?

This website owner with links from Russian dating sites was not mad at the link builder. The owner made some good money with the search visibility while it lasted. The SEO paid for itself many times over. Effective SEO does that.

He now wants a plan that will build long-term search visibility success. E-Power is drafting a plan to do that. It involves removing spam links, developing quality content and promoting it through Social Media to attract links. This game plan works, but it takes longer to achieve success. On the other hand, you can hold that search visibility success for many years through many Google algorithm changes.

So when you consider hiring an SEO expert, make sure you know what strategies will be used. Will the results be fast but short-term, or taking longer to develop and hold for the long-term?
