SUSPENDED – Why is Google Penalizing My Local Listing?
Have you checked the status of your Local listing on Google lately? Recently Google has started suspending listings that are breaking the rules of Local Search to ensure that only accurate and optimized listings are available to their searchers. As a Google Partner, the team at E-Power knows how important it is to follow the guidelines as set by Google to ensure the quality of everything your business does online. Google keeps a very close eye on each Local listing and if they feel there is any conflict with the black and white rules, your business listing will become suspended and not visible to your audience when they are searching. Specific reasoning as to why your business is being penalized will not be stated, simply because the more information Google gives out, the easier it is for rule breakers to find loopholes.
However, suspension does not mean the same thing for everyone. There are two types of suspensions that can mean very different things and have different effects on your listing.
A soft suspension is the less harsh penalty that Google is serving to businesses. If you are flagged with a suspension label but can still see your Local listing on Google or Google Maps, you have been hit with a soft suspension. In this case, Google has removed all of your managing capabilities and your business is no longer verified. There are ways to correct this action. Google wants you to know that you have broken their rules and they noticed. To ensure that you don’t get suspended again, make sure you are following the rules and regulations broken out by Google in the Google My Business Guidelines.
A hard suspension is the more severe punishment from Google regarding your business’s Local listing status. In this case, your listing has been removed from Google Maps entirely, including all photos and reviews. When you open the record in Google Map Maker, it will say “removed.” There is no easy fix for this kind of penalty. Google itself must reinstate the Local listing and the chances of that happening are very small. Although multiple businesses have recently received a hard suspension, it may have been for different reasons. Take a look at the Top 9 Reasons that could cause a hard suspension according to Search Engine Land.
Is your business performing any of these notorious actions that could result in your Local Search listing being suspended by Google? These are only a small portion of factors, but usually the most common. Making sure your business has an optimized listing that follows all of the Google guidelines is an extremely important part for the success of your Online Marketing program as a Local business.
